EQUIPMENT NEEDED FOR A DJ:

This is an overview of all the equipment that a DJ might need. We will discuss in details which are the best brands in the market, and how to identify a good product from a bad one.

HOW TO SET UP YOUR EQUIPMENT:

In detailed explanation on how to do all the necessary wiring for CD players, Mixer, Speakers, and everything in between.

SAFETY ISSUES:

An overview of all the hazards that a DJ might face while mixing, from faulty electric installation to safeguarding your ears.

A TOUR OF THE CD PLAYERS:

We will tackle every button available on the CD Player (CDJ 900), explaining in depth how to use them, and when to use them.

A TOUR OF THE MIXER:

Same like the CD Player, we will visit every Button, Fader and knob on the mixer (DJM 800), to gain knowledge of all the possibilities a mixer offers, from simple volumes to complex effects.

BPM, MEASURE, PHRASE:

In this section, we will explain the composition and structure of an Electronic Music Track from its speed (Beats per minute), to its signature, allowing us to better understand the flow and anticipate the buildups and the drops.

HOW TO CUE A TRACK:
We will explain what is CUE, how to effectively use it, and how to choose when and where to CUE a track.

KEEP TUNE IN TIME:
In this section, we start testing our reflexes and our ears. We will try to align perfectly together, 2 different tracks with the same BPM, using the play button and the CD player wheel.

BEAT MATCHING:
In the previous section, we were working with same BPM tracks, now we will work with different BPM’s, trying to align the tracks using Play, Wheel, and adding the Tempo fader to the equation.

MIXING & TRANSITION:

Beat matching is behind us, now we need to mix our tracks at exactly the right point, respecting the measures and the phrases, and then perform a seamless transition hopping from one track to the other.

HARMONIC MIXING:

A Step further from a simple mix, in this section we will use musical keys to give another dimension to our set and assist us in the track selection.

ADVANCED TIPS AND TRICKS:

Some secrets from the business… How to do complex multiple effects, how to combine different functions of the CD player or the mixer into one, etc… In short some advanced techniques to give you a small taste of the endless possibilities a DJ set offers.

MAIN GENRES OF ELECTRONIC MUSIC:
This is a knowledge section, to broaden your horizons, and introduce you to some main and other less known underground genres of Electronic Music. Who knows, your newest passion could be hidden here!

DJ PERSONALITY, MARKETING & NETWORKING:
Mixing Skills and a good ear are very important to becoming a successful DJ, but they also go hand in hand with the ability and the knowledge to effectively promote yourself, and reach as many audience as possible. This is what we learn how to do in this section. As they say in the DJ world: “If you’re not networking, you’re not working”.
